Program Note
After writing a number of pieces that weighed heavy on my heart, I decided I wanted to write something more up lifting. The Golden Thread was written as a musical response to the challenges and uncertainties that often define our shared experience. In times of adversity, the act of seeking unity finding a common “thread” that brings us together is both necessary and healing. This piece seeks to be that thread. Structured around sharply contrasting sections, The Golden Thread explores a broad emotional spectrum, from introspective to exuberant. These contrasting episodes are interwoven with a series of solos and soli passages, each offering a distinct voice while simultaneously contributing to a larger, cohesive idea. Through these individual expressions, a recurring thematic idea emerges and evolves, functioning as the symbolic "golden thread" that binds the work together. Ultimately, this piece reflects the notion that, despite our differences and the moments of dissonance we may encounter, it is possible to find harmony through shared purpose and collective expression.
