Field Journals was composed Vivace Quintet for the 2026 Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival. This piece was composed similarly to my work for reed quintet Acid Wash. Much like Acid Wash, Field Journals is a compilation of five unique movements each with their own character and style. Each movement explores different compositional ideas in an effort to allow each instrument to compliment each other. Each movement title is a reflection of something personal to me at the time of writing this piece. In a similar way, the music itself speaks to something close to me. Some of these ideas are more abstract than others; but movement represents something close to me in their own way. I imagine this will not be the first iteration of Field Journals, in a similar way that this can almost be seen as an extension of Acid Wash.
