Program Note

Chasing Entropy opens with a simple theme which is repeated throughout the whole piece, up until the very end. Despite this constant theme, everything around it is growing, changing, and becoming less orderly. The definition of entropy is the gradual decline into disorder, so this piece is meant to represent that change and the decline of predictability. I also view this piece as a way to represent growing up. We start out with a fundamental understanding of the world (the repeated theme), and we base our life choices around these beliefs. The older we get and the more we learn, the more complex and challenging our lives get, but through all that our fundamental beliefs remain.
